  • HDCCo Awarded Foothill College PSEC
    Hathaway Dinwiddie was awarded preconstruction services for the Foothill College Physical Sciences and Engineering Center (PSEC) consisting of a 57,000 SF, 3 building complex that will house modern laboratory and support spaces for chemistry, physics, nanotechnology and the Physical Sciences, Math and Engineering Division.  If you are interested in bidding this project, please visit our project specific website at www.FoothillCollegePSEC.org.

  • 2010- UC Irvine Opens State's First Stem Cell Research Institure

    Hathaway Dinwiddie has completed its design-build contract and UC Irvine has opened the first ground up stem cell research facility supported by a grant from the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM).  Further financial support was received from the UC system, private funding, and a substantial gift from Sue and Bill Gross for whom the research center is named.

    The 100,000 square foot facility was designed and built in 22 months.  DES Architects + Engineers, Redwood City, were the Architects.

  • 2010 – 50 United Nations Plaza Renovation Begins
    Hathaway Dinwiddie has been contracted for the seismic upgrade and renovation of 50 United Nations Plaza.  The project includes demolition, hazardous materials abatement, historic renovation and interior reconfiguration of the existing 350,000 SF five-level Federal building. The General Services Administration, Hathaway Dinwiddie's client, plans to move into the building upon completion.  Project is seeking a certification of LEED Gold, or Platinum and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Additional information can be found in this San Francisco Business Times article.

  • 2010- CITRIS Wins Best R&D/Lab
    The CITRIS (Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society) Headquarters on the UC Berkeley campus received the 2009 Best R&D/Lab Space Deal of the Year Award by the San Francisco Business Times.  The building—an innovative 142,000 SF seven-story structure that includes microfabrication labs with Class 100 and Class 1,000 cleanrooms—was successfully completed by Hathaway Dinwiddie in June 2009.

  • 2010- It's Official
    Formal Groundbreaking for the Cedars Sinai Medical Center's Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion happened Monday January 24, 2010. 
    The 800,000 square foot facility includes 5 levels of parking and 8 levels of sophisticated clinical research space, administrative and medical offices, an imaging center, a conference center, and a number of other special purpose uses.
    Work commenced on site in October of 2009 and is scheduled for completion early in 2013.

  • 2009 - California Construction Honors Centennial Towers
    In December, California Construction Magazine’s Best of 2009 awards program recognized Hathaway Dinwiddie’s Centennial Towers project.  Centennial Towers, designed by Skidmore, Owings&Merrill LLP, won the regional Best of 2009 Award for Best Office.

  • 2009 – China Basin receives Applied Technology Council Award
    Applied Technology Council and the Structural Engineering Institute awarded Hathaway Dinwiddie’s China Basin Addition project the “Top Application of the Principles and Practice of Seismic Isolation Technology Over the Last Decade” as part of their 2009 Top U.S. Seismic Strengthening Project Award program.  Simpson Gumpertz&Heger, Inc. was the project’s structural engineer.

  • 2009 – HDCCo Projects Win Two of Eight CICA Awards
    Hathaway Dinwiddie was awarded two of the eight 2009 Commercial Interiors Contractors Awards.  The Hyatt Regency Club, located on the 18th Floor, won in the Best of Hospitality Interiors category.  And, HDCCo’s renovation of Serramonte Mall won in the Best of Retail category.

  • 2009- HDCCo Project Wins AIA 2009 Honor Award
    The Chronicle Books renovation, constructed by Hathaway Dinwiddie and designed by Mark Cavagnero Associates, won a 2009 Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA).  The AIA awarded this great honor to less than 5% of the projects that were submitted for consideration.

  • 2009- Al Gore Headlines Groundbreaking of the Richard C. Blum Center for Developing Economies
    Al Gore, former U.S. Vice President, 2007 Nobel Peace Prize winner, and international authority on global warming, was the keynote speaker at the Groundbreaking Ceremonies held at U.C. Berkeley.  The project, designed by Gensler, is scheduled for completion in 2010.  Additional information can be found at UC Berkeley News and the UC Newsroom.  Project details are included on our Current Projects page

  • 2009- HDCCo Projects Sweep Best New Lab Awards Category
    Projects completed by Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction Company (HDCCo) in 2008 were awarded Winner and Runner-Up Best New Lab Building of the Year by San Francisco Business Times.  The projects were 409/499 Illinois and the China Basin Addition, both in Mission Bay.  Additional information on our bio-technology and chemistry laboratory experience can be found on our Life Science Projects page.

  • 2009- Hathaway Dinwiddie awarded Residence Hall project at Pomona College
    In March, Hathaway Dinwiddie was awarded the North Campus Residence Hall and Parking Structure at Pomona College designed by Ehrlich Architects.  In 2007, Hathaway Dinwiddie completed the Lincoln Edmonds Building on the Pomona College campus as well.  Pomona College's website has additional information.

  • 2009- HDCCo Projects win 2 of 7 IIDA Honor Awards
    Interior projects constructed by Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction Company (HDCCo) won 2 of the 7 International Interior Design Association 2009 Honor Awards.  The Chronicle Books project in San Francisco, designed by Mark Cavagnero Associates, won the “Work Big” category.  And, the Artis Capital Management project, on the top floor of San Francisco’s One Market Steuart Tower and design by Rottet Studio, won the “Work Small” category.

  • 2009 - Pixar Phase II Breaks Ground
    Work is underway on the Pixar Phase II project in Emeryville, California.  Allied Works of Portland, Oregon, are design architects and Perkins + Will of San Francisco are executive architects.  The project will meet LEED green building standards.  Additional information can be found on our Current Projects page.

  • 2009- California Institute of Technology Opens
    In January, work was completed and opening ceremonies held for Caltech’s Cahill Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics.  The project, LEED Silver (seeking Gold), is designed by Morphosis and special recognition was acknowledged for architect Thom Mayne.

  • 2008- USC School of Cinematic Arts Complete, Phase II Underway
    Opening celebrations for the USC School of Cinematic Arts were held over the weekend of March 28-29, 2009.  In attendance were George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and USC President Steven Sample.  Work on Phase II of the project is underway and scheduled for completion in 2010.

  • 2008- California Construction Honors Two HDC Projects
    California Construction Magazine's Best of 2008 awards program recognized two of Hathaway Dinwiddie's projects, Stanford Y2E2 and the China Basin Addition.  China Basin's Addition won the Best Mixed Use project and Stanford's Y2E2 project won the Award of Merit in the Best Green Building category.

  • 2008- China Basin Receives Award of Excellence
    China Basin's 215,000 SF addition atop 185 Berry Street constructed by Hathaway Dinwiddie was honored by the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California with the 2008 Award of Excellence for Retrofits / Alterations.   • 2008 - Natural Science Building Wins Award
    Mills College's Natural Science Building, for which Hathaway Dinwiddie is the construction manager, won the Energy Project of the Year for Region V Award from the Association of Energy Engineers. This Award follows the project's receipt of its LEED Platinum Certification in November 2007. The LEED / Sustainable projects category on our projects page has more information regarding some of our "Green Building" experience.

  • 2008 - Stanford’s Y2E2 wins “Best Green Building”
    Stanford’s Yang and Yamazaki Environment and Energy Building (Y2E2) was awarded the “Best Green Building” of 2007 Award by the San Francisco Business Times. Completed in November, 2007, the 166,500 SF facility houses researchers and students in fields such as ecology, biology, and earth science. Y2E2 goes above and beyond many LEED standards by incorporating sustainable design/construction practices in a manner that provides its occupants the opportunity to research and study the cutting-edge technologies that were integrated.
